In Notes, to narrow the width of the sidebar, drag the edge of the sidebar to the left.

Delete the word that is to the left of the cursor in TextEdit

In Safari, to always open all browser windows from the last session when opening Safari, choose Safari> Preferences> General> Safari opens with: All windows from last session.
